3. Specialized Technical Support of Millimeter-wave Imaging Radiometer Data and Algorithm Development of Water Vapor Retrievals

Futuretech provided technical support in microwave radiometry relevant to the studies of atmospheric water vapor, clouds and surface hydrological properties. In particular, Futuretech supported the following activities:

• Millimeter-wave Imaging Radiometer data acquisition, processing, calibration and validation, including the inter-comparison of measurements from spaceborne sensors such as TIROS-N (TOVS), SSM/I, SSM/T-2, AMSU and from in-situ ground truth measurements.

• Development of three-dimensional, near real-time water vapor retrieval algorithm using multi-channel microwave sensor measurements from NOAA and DMSP polar orbiters.

• Forward radiative transfer calculation under different atmospheric conditions and retrievals of water vapor profiles and clouds.

• Numerical simulations of water vapor profiling and global mapping of water vapor and clouds using microwave measurements from space and the grid GCM model outputs of meteorological parameters and sea surface temperature(SST).
